SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, Utah state epidemiologist Dr. Angela C. Dunn spoke to Utah media at the State Capitol Building with the latest statistics on COVID-19.
As of Monday, there are 6,362 positive tests for COVID-19 in the Beehive State. This is an increase of 111 positive cases in the past 24 hours, but represents a -37 decrease in positive cases in the past 24 hours.
150,585 total tests for COVID-19 have been administered in Utah. This is an increase of 4,075 tests from the previous day. This has brought Utah’s overall positive test percentage to 4.224 percent. In the past 24 hours, only 2.72 percent of Utahns tested positive for COVID-19.
Wasatch County currently has 183 positive tests for COVID-19 which is an increase of 7 from Sunday’s totals. There have been 8 hospitalizations from COVID-19 in Wasatch County and one death which occurred April 10.
Dunn dashed any hopes of yellow (low risk) being achieved by Friday as she said she does not see that happening in Utah.
However, Dunn did say the Beehive State is doing well and the plateau has not changed in the past 10 days since Utah moved to the orange zone, or moderate risk.
Before low risk can be achieved, Dunn says she wants a transmission rate below 1 percent by the autumn. She said this will take time and it relies on people having immunity to COVID-19.
Dunn said people need to practice social distancing and wear a mask in public, just as they previously have to get to this point.
Dunn did not compartmentalize between the health and economic crises in Utah, saying they go hand-in-hand.
In closing, she applauded the Beehive State for its early and proactive response to combating COVID-19 as it has allowed Utah to creatively open our economy while still balancing health needs.
