WASHINGTON-Monday, United States president Donald Trump addressed the media hours after he claimed he would not do so as part of the series of White House coronavirus task force briefings.
Trump confirmed that ensuring the health of our economy is vital to ensuring the health of our nation.
Trump said the United States “tests twice as much ” as any other country, citing the nation’s more than 5 million COVID-19 tests that have been conducted.
Trump stated “all parts of the country are in good shape getting better. Things are moving along” as the nation seeks to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Trump said that every governor has more ventilators than they know what to do with as he continued.
Executives from Walgreen’s, CVS, LabCorp and Wal-Mart also spoke for several moments, confirming their contributions to assisting in combating the pandemic.
Trump then returned to the podium, stating “Together we will rebuild this land that we love. We will reclaim the magnificent destiny that we share and we will carry our nation forward to new heights of greatness and glory.”
Trump confirmed that he expects testing to double nationwide, stating that this is instrumental in states reopening. Trump stated “Testing is not going to be a problem at all.”
Trump said that it is of paramount importance to have updated guidelines for the states to ensure a safe reopening. He confirmed that pharmacies are being asked to aid in testing capabilities.
White House Coronavirus Task Force response coordinator Deborah Birx then spoke, stating that the updating of guidelines is essential to ensure public-private partnerships within states. She said there needs to be a rapid response program between the Centers of Disease Control and state governments.
Trump administration assistant secretary for health, Admiral Brett Giroir, then spoke, saying “the U.S. has acquired a sufficient supply of swabs for testing. He said interdisciplinary teams are meeting regularly to ensure the country is fully equipped with supplies and tests. He concluded, saying hospitals and labs are to work together to ensure max communication/collaboration occurs.
The White House Coronavirus Task Force will again address the media Tuesday.
