Dollar Ridge Fire Day 2

Dollar Ridge Fire Day 2

DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah-Monday, as firefighters do their best to put out the Dollar Ridge fire, it remains a threat, primarily in Duchesne County.

The blaze started near Strawberry Reservoir in Wasatch County around 1:00 pm MDT Sunday afternoon and at last count, had burned 6,600 acres with 0 percent containment.

Presently, the Strawberry River Road has been closed at Camelot Resort in Duchesne County.

Per a report from KSL-TV’s Caitlin Burchhill, crews will work on protecting structures as they wait for more assistance to arrive on scene.

Some people who have camped at Camelot Resort are also affected as they cannot get their trailers out this morning because the road is closed.

As of 10:55 am MDT Monday, the access in to Camelot Resort on the Strawberry River Road is closed and access in to Timber Canyon from all directions is also closed.

Presently open in the area are U.S. Highway 40, Pinnacles Road and Strawberry Reservoir recreation areas.

Per information from Kelsey Eagar of Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, a potential evacuation notice exists for residents in the Fruitland and Pinion ridge area. They are currently on standby. Additionally, Eagar states this includes all areas south of U.S. Highway 40 and west of Low Red Creek Road.

As of 12:46 pm MDT, Utah Wildfire reports additional evacuations have been ordered. These include Camelot Resort and the cabins down the river along the Strawberry Gorge that are under mandatory evacuations.

As the afternoon progressed, the blaze grew to 7,600 acres and was still 0 percent contained, per Morgan Saxton of KUTV-2 News in Salt Lake City.

Her colleague, Rae Ann Christensen, reported more evacuation orders had been issued because of long range spot fires.

Around 4:25 pm MDT, ABC 4 Utah of Salt Lake City reported the Fruitland LDS Church, located at 46250 W. 6000 South in Fruitland, is serving as a Red Cross shelter for evacuees.

Christensen later reported, around 4:37 pm MDT that homes on Currant Creek were being “directly impacted” by the blaze.

As of 4:45 pm MDT, Heidi Hatch, also of KUTV 2 News, reported that the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Travis Tucker was ordering Pinion Ridge residents to commence in their evacuation.

Utah Wildfire also reports that at 6:00 pm, the Big G, located on U.S. Highway 40 in Fruitland, will serve as the host for a media briefing.

The biggest news of the evening is the fact that the fire has grown up to 30,000 acres and containment is still eluding the firefighters.

In order to assess the damage more effectively, Utah Wildfire tweeted that because no maps exist of the current fire perimeter, an infrared flyover will occur to give fire managers a “true look” of what has burned thus far.

To conclude the evening, Utah Wildfire confirmed there will be a media briefing Tuesday morning at 8:00 am MDT at the parking lot of G’s Gas Station in Fruitland.
