DOJ Criticizes Utah For Alleged Mistreatment Of Workers With Disabilities

(Undated) — The U.S. Department of Justice is taking the Beehive State to task over its alleged mistreatment of “youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.” Monday, DOJ officials accused the State of Utah of failing to help youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities during the day, instead of helping them find work and spend their days with other members of their communities. Officials also claimed that the state’s workshops are often located in industrial warehouses, where workers enjoyed minimal contact with other members of the community and, in some cases, performed repetitive tasks in exchange for sub-minimal-wage income.
