Cox Explains Why He Signed DEI Bill

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox is giving his explanation for signing a bill that changes diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. Cox released a five-thousand word essay on the matter Friday, just a couple of weeks after the measure was passed with a veto proof majority. The bill replaces DEI programs in colleges and universities and puts student success centers in their place. Those centers are required to be open to all students and keeps diversity statements from being involved in the hiring process on campuses. Cox said the legislation continues to “support programs that promote student success” and “prevents discriminatory practices.”
