Capitol Reef National Park To Close Its Scenic Drive Monday

CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK, Utah-Sunday, Capitol Reef National Park announced it is closing its scenic road and campground Monday.

The closure comes in response to recommendations from the Central Utah Public Health Department of Richfield to support federal, state and local efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

This closure comes on the heels of additional closures to the park’s visitors center, the Gifford House and the Fruita Campground which were all shut down in late March.

Utah S.R. 24 remains open through the park. Furthermore, some outdoor spaces, facilities and services remain open at this time, including restrom facilities and trails.

This was confirmed by a National Park Service press release. Law enforcement personnel will remain on duty in the area. Capitol Reef Superintendent Sue Fritzke said park staff are also available via phone.
