Book Banning Bill To Gov. Cox’s Desk

Book Banning Bill To Gov. Cox’s Desk

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A bill that would change the book banning process in Utah schools is going to Governor Cox’s desk. If signed into law, a book that has what is believed to be “objective sensitive material” would require two school districts or five charter schools banning it for it to be banned state-wide. Books can be taken off the “ban” list if the Utah State Board of Education meets and reinstates the book within 60 days. The bill would go into effect July First. Those that oppose say that it is an overreach of power by the state and could be used to over protect students from learning about real world issues like rape or incest.
