Big Hollow Fire: Day 2

DANIEL, Utah-Friday, reports continued pouring in concerning the Big Hollow Fire, which commenced Thursday afternoon around 4:30 pm.

For all intents and purposes, the blaze appears to be over, some 25 hours after it started.

Progress is being made. It has officially burned 418 acres and is at 22 percent containment. The weather has been propitious for combating the blaze. It is presently 93 degrees with 12 mph gusts out of the southwest.

Fire crews are starting to gain some semblance of control over the blaze at this stage. It is is burning away from homes at this time as well.

This consists of a 90-person crew, nine engines, two hand-crews and aircraft support. Little Sweden Road is currently under voluntary evacuation. There is still limited access to this road. Today, 10-15 mph southwestern gusts are in the forecast, so this will present a struggle.

As of 11:30 pm Thursday evening, mandatory evacuations were lifted. The blaze has grown to 500 acres. Voluntary evacuations remain in effect on Little Sweden Road from U.S. Highway 40 to Daniels Road.
