OGDEN, Utah (AP) — An Army sergeant from Utah who died in Afghanistan has been laid to rest in Ogden.
The Standard-Examiner reports family, friends, fellow military members and others gathered Thursday for the funeral of U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Elliott J. Robbins.
The 31-year-old is survived by his wife and baby boy. Rev. Erik Richtsteig says he hopes the child learns that his father loved him and died doing a “great, noble thing.”
After the funeral mass at St. James Catholic Church, he was buried with full military honors.
The U.S. Army has said the he died from noncombat injuries June 30 in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province.
Robbins grew up in Ogden and was assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group at Fort Carson, Colorado. He served in the Army for 13 years.
