SALT LAKE CITY-A Thursday morning report confirms more than 28,000 Utahns filed for unemployment benefits last week as COVID-19 continues to negatively affect the economy.
Between March 22-28, the three industries affected the most in the Beehive State are as follows:
-food preparation and serving (16.6 percent)
-office and administrative support (12.03 percent)
-management (9.5 percent [9.46 percent])
The five Utah counties with the highest number of individuals to file new unemployment insurance claims during this week were:
-Salt Lake County (41.83 percent)
-Utah County (14.63 percent)
-Davis County (9.17 percent)
-Weber County (6.81 percent)
-Washington County (6.06 percent)
Part of the unemployment insurance system is filing weekly claims. The report states 24,424 weekly claims were filed according to this report.
Nearly $4 million were paid in benefits.
