The last council meeting met with a bit of contention. New Mayor, Heidi Franco presented a possible change in board assignments for council members, and brought up the issue of her and the city manager roll. Council members questioned these issues. Both issues will be brought up at later meetings after reviews.
Heber City statutes are different than Utah State Statutes and Mayor Franco is questioning the current city statute. The Mayor is stating state statute in her roll of Mayor by changing the roll of increasing the mayors position and wanting to oversee the day to day activities of the City Manager and the city employees. The City Council members will look over the statutes and discuss the issue again at the next meeting.
Mayor Franco also wanted to reassign the council members from the boards they now sit on to different ones. Council members voiced opposition to the idea, since a considerable amount of time has already gone into the boards they currently sit on. Both state and city codes require consent of a majority of the city council for the Mayors appointments. This issue will also be addressed at the next meeting.
The City Council’s next meeting is Tuesday , January 18th 2022 at 6pm in the Heber City offices and are open to the public.
