MIDVALE, Utah-Thursday, the Utah High School Activities Association confirmed they are allowing autumn sports to occur (football, girls tennis, cross country, girls volleyball, boys golf, girls soccer and 1-A baseball) as student-athletes return to in-person classes statewide.
This was determined during a ZOOM meeting conducted on Thursday morning.
This UHSAA board meeting was conducted by North Summit School District Superintendent Jerre Holmes and UHSAA executive director Rob Cuff.
Thursday’s decision was final although officials said that schools need to be flexible concerning additional COVID-19 data emerging or a surge in infections or the virus statewide.
Should an outbreak occur on any given sports team, this team could be required to quarantine individuals who have had direct contact with any positive cases, for example.
Furthermore, all plans for the upcoming autumn sports season are to be made in consultation with local and county health departments, as well as proper state protocols.
Another UHSAA board of trustees meeting is slated for July 28. This would entail an evaluation of the motion and district plans to resume competition.
Wasatch High School boys golf tryouts commence July 15 with other schools conducting golf tryouts July 20.
On July 27, football and girls soccer practices are allowed to start
