SPANISH FORK, Utah-Friday, Abbie Randall once again asserted herself as the best cross country runner at Wasatch High School as she placed second at the Region 8 cross country championship meet at the Spanish Fork Sports Park.
Randall, a star junior, ran the 3-mile run in a time of 18:09.50. Her efforts helped the Wasps finish third with 84 points. Springville’s girls took the team title with 20 points while Red Devils star, junior Heidi Sumsion, won the Region 8 title in a time of 17:59.20.
Senior Anna Baird placed 17th (19:15.70), freshman Allison Munck placed 18th (19:19.70) and freshman Emma Page placed 19th (19:26.60).
Freshman Lillie Randall finished 28th (19:46.00), senior Madelyn King placed 31st (19:49.10), junior Danielle Krull finished 33rd (19:58.00) and junior Savanna Dorrough placed 41st (20:43.70).
The Springville boys also took the Region 8 crown with 44 points, while Wasatch finished sixth with 135 points.
The individual Region 8 boys champion is Park City senior Reese McGrath (15:41.40). Senior Josh Horner led the Wasps by placing 21st overall (16:20.90). Senior Bentley Ackerson placed 22nd (16:23.60), sophomore Jake Giles placed 27th (16:32.20), junior Conner Weldon placed 31st (16:39.40), freshman Trevor Hardy placed 34th (16:41.50), senior Josh Benson finished 39th (16:49.90), sophomore Zack Goode placed 49th (17:04.80) and sophomore Carson Guymon placed 51st (17:14.80).
The Wasps will compete at the state cross country championship meet October 23 at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City any time between 11:00 am and 3:30 pm.
