June 17, 2021— Heber City Council approves resolution to support Wasatch County Fire District, bans fireworks, campfires and discharging of tracer ammunition.
The Heber City Council passed a resolution upholding the Wasatch County Fire District and State of Utah’s ban on fireworks of any kind including open flame, fireworks and tracer ammunition. This ban is slated to remain in effect through September 30, 2021. This is in response to the extreme drought conditions that Wasatch County, Utah, and the western United States are currently experiencing.
The council discussed penalties for violating this mandate could be up to and including a $1000 fine and six months in jail.
Chief Ernie Giles explained the exceptions to the ban include events that have already been approved and permits issued by the Wasatch County Fire Department, including the Wasatch County Demolition Derby, Fair Days Rodeo which are sponsored by governmental entities – and administered by professional pyrotechnic companies. Heber City Law enforcement officers will issue tickets during the July 4th and 24th holidays with steep fines.
>>No Open Fires of any kind, except within public facilities in improved campgrounds (however, State and Federal Lands have prohibited fires as of Monday, June 14, 2021) Except in permanently constructed private fire pits at private homes where running water is present.
>>No Discharge of Fireworks, Tracer ammunition or other pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.
>>No cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.
