CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP)-Ensuing in their tradition of excellence that occurred at their first track meet of the season, the Richfield boys and girls each obtained Region 12 championships Thursday at Canyon View High School.
Richfield’s girls downed second-place Juab 106-80 while the Wildcat boys surged past second-place Canyon View 113-95.
Winning individual titles for the girls Friday were Canyon View’s Sara Fish in the 3200-meter run with Sadie Crompton of Carbon winning the 800-meter run title.
Sarah Ohlwiler of Carbon won the 100-meter hurdles title and the long jump crown, while Juab’s Krista Nielson won the 300-meter hurdles crown.
Juab’s Ronnie Walker won the girls’ 100-meter dash crown and Shandi Bastian of Richfield won the 200 and 400-meter dash titles as well as the high jump crown.
Emily Nelson of Juab won the girls’ shot put title and Yanaba Oshley of Canyon View won the javelin crown. Rounding out individual events for the girls was Richfield’s Carrol Taufatofua, winning the discus championship with a toss of 103 feet.
Carbon’s girls won the 4 x 100 relay with Richfield’s girls obtaining a pair of victories in the 4 x 400 and medley relays.
Individual winners for the boys included Jonathan Monsen of Richfield sweeping the boys’ 3200 and 800-meter titles.
Richfield’s Josh Thomas was his usual stellar self, netting championships in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles as well as both the high jump and the long jump.
Parker Hightower of North Sanpete was no slouch himself, winning both the 100 and 200-meter championships, while Canyon View’s Seth Dabb won the 400-meter dash title.
Aaron Clark of Juab won the boys’ discus and javelin championships while Canyon View’s Porter Miller took the boys’ shot put crown.
Meanwhile, Canyon View also had something to be proud of on their home track as well as their boys swept the 4 x 100, 4 x 400 and medley championships, establishing a Falcons monopoly on the relays.
