The Utes had opportunities to add to their lead, stranding two runners on base in the third, seventh and eighth innings. Carroll reached base with a double and a walk and also had a stolen base, his 10th of the year.
Arizona State stranded six on base throughout the game. Jayson’s brother Josh made a highlight catch in the first inning with a diving play near the right field line, doubling up the runner at first. The Sun Devils stranded two on in the second after a pair of walks. Two of the three hits were doubles.
