SALT LAKE CITY—The Utah athletics teams excelled not only on the field of play, but also in the classroom in the 2017 spring semester, earning a department-record 3.165 combined grade-point average. The 19-sport program has now achieved a total GPA above a 3.0 for 22 consecutive semesters.
The gymnastics team, which won its third Pac-12 Championship in the last four years and finished fifth at the 2017 NCAA Championships, earned the department’s highest team GPA with a 3.676. Women’s soccer, which advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last fall—the best finish in school history—was second with a 3.606 spring term GPA.
Nearly 68-percent of Utah’s student-athletes qualified for the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the spring semester, which requires a minimum 3.00 GPA. Every member of the gymnastics and men’s tennis teams earned Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status.
In addition, a third of Utah’s student-athletes (33.09%) made the Dean’s List (minimum 3.50 term GPA with at least 12 graded credits) in the spring semester.
