Dixie State Men’s Basketball Commences Division I Era By Hosting North Dakota Wednesday

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Wednesday, Dixie State men’s basketball commences its Division I era by hosting North Dakota at the Burns Arena.

The Trailblazers, as an NCAA institution (having moved up to Division II for the 2006-07 season) are 135-29 (.823) all-time at Burns Arena, including a 12-2 (.857) campaign last season.

Trailblazers head coach Jon Judkins has won 569 games as a head coach at Snow College and Dixie State University.

This leaves him only 14 wins short of surpassing former University of Utah women’s head basketball coach Elaine Elliott (582-234) for the most wins in Utah college basketball history.

Dixie State returns four starters from last season, including preseason second-team all-WAC forward Hunter Schofield in addition to forward Jarod Greene, guard Dason Youngblood and guard/forward Frank Staine.

This is the first time the Trailblazers and Fighting Hawks have met on hardwood in history.

North Dakota is 0-1 on the season having fallen 81-67 to Miami (Ohio) in their season opener November 25.
