SALT LAKE CITY-Per a Tuesday release from spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eric Hawkins, Elder Gerrit W. Gong of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Gong have been diagnosed with covid-19.
As was confirmed at this past weekend’s General Conference sessions, Elder Gong had been exposed to covid-19.
Therefore, he was the only Apostle to not attend the conference in-person.
It has been confirmed that their condition is mild but they are proceeding with caution and doctors are carefully monitoring their health.
The Church has confirmed it will follow all appropriate health protocols for contact tracing and will continue to follow health guidelines for the virus.
This is to protect Church leaders and self-isolation may be used if necessary.
The Church exhorts all members to take steps to protect themselves during this time.
