Hideout May Be Annexed Into Summit County

HIDEOUT, Utah-Friday, the town of Hideout, which is located on the northeastern shore of the Jordanelle Reservoir, conducted a public meeting.

Its purpose was to discuss their options as a judge has granted a preliminary injunction to Summit County following the town’s attempt to annex 655 acres of land in the county.

As presently constituted, Hideout is entirely in Wasatch County.

During the proceedings, Hideout Council members emphasized to members of the public in attendance that this meeting was “purely informational” with no definitive actions being taken at this stage.

The council confirmed they are desirous to be annexed into Summit County because there is presently a dearth of services planned for the Jordanelle area.

Reportedly, some 20,000 units could be constructed in Hideout within the next few years.

Wasatch and Summit Counties each dispute Hideout’s claim that they have not sufficiently planned for such growth occurring.

Conversely, Wasatch and Summit Counties assert their efforts in developing areas in the Silver Creek Village along U.S. Highway 189 along with various planned communities near the shores of Jordanelle Reservoir.

These also entail entitlements for possible commercial development.

For the past 25 years, the Wasatch County School District has owned an elementary school site near the Mayflower Exit on the western shores of Jordanelle.

Another public meeting is slated for Tuesday September 8 at 5:30 pm concerning this matter.

At this stage, Summit County has expressed willingness to do whatever they can to keep county land completely under their control.

Should Hideout decide to progress forward with annexation plans, it is probable the two parties could find themselves in court again.
