Two Sister Missionaries in Houston Hospital Following Stabbings

HOUSTON-Early Sunday morning, two sister missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Texas Houston Mission were stabbed and are recovering in a hospital following  a home invasion.

The missionaries told authorities from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office they had never met their assailant who broke into their apartment shortly after 4:00 am CDT Sunday.

Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff said the missionaries were taken to the hospital and expected to recover from the attack.

Woodruff said the Salt Lake City-based faith is deferring to authorities continuing this investigation to provide specific details concerning the incident.

The two have not been identified by the Church at this time.

KTRK-TV, Channel 13 of Houston reported investigators noticed a man standing near the apartment complex’s front gate who matched the description the missionaries gave of their assailant.

This man was then taken into custody to face charges of aggravated assault. Investigators are also searching for the weapon involved.

Sheriff’s deputies said they believe the man lives near this northwest Houston apartment complex.
