SALT LAKE CITY-During recent interviews, members of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other general auxiliary leaders exhorted adherents of the Salt Lake City-based faith throughout the world to honor pioneer heritage.
This is to commemorate Pioneer Day, the anniversary of when then-Church president Brigham Young led the first company of pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley July 24, 1847.
Elder M. Russell Ballard, the acting president of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles, said all members of the faith have pioneer heritage as somewhere along the line, a predecessor accepted the Gospel.
Elder Ulisses Soares of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles, a Brazilian national, stated that as he grew up a Church member, he was inspired by learning of the sacrifices of pioneers. Elder Soares said that members of the Church have a special responsibility to promulgate pioneer legacy through service.
Sister Joy D. Jones, the Church’s general Primary president, exhorted members to remember their pioneer pasts to help them prepare for the future.
