EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (AP) — A child in Utah was critically injured when he was accidentally shot in the back of the head with a BB gun, authorities said.
The 6-year-old boy and his 12-year-old brother were playing with BB guns at their Eagle Mountain home around 7:45 p.m. when older brother’s gun went off, the Utah County sheriff’s office said.
The pellet “may have ricocheted, striking the younger boy in the back of the head,” Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
“It appears to be accidental. But it was a pump-style BB gun, and, depending on how much it’s been pumped, they can pack a little more punch than the regular BB guns,” Cannon said.
The child was taken to the hospital by helicopter Monday. His current condition was not immediately available.
