SALT LAKE CITY-The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, per a statement from the Church’s h First Presidency, confirmed the semiannual general conference slated for October 2020 will be virtual as was the April general conference.
The Salt Lake City-based faith describes itself as a “worldwide organization” in the statement and says it is for this reason, that the October general conference will follow the pattern of its April predecessor.
The Church cites the reasoning for this decision to be that some areas are still suffering from the effects of the global pandemic.
The Church continued, saying that because of its responsibility to serve as “good citizens,” they must act cautiously as pertaining to a unique setting. This is what General Conference traditionally is, as through the years, it has semi-annually brought thousands of global residents to Church headquarters at Salt Lake City for the event.
The general sessions will be broadcast as usual, but will be inaccessible to the public.
This document concludes with the First Presidency (Church President Russell M. Nelson and first counselor, President Dallin H. Oaks and second counselor, President Henry B. Eyring) praying for the Lord’s choicest blessings to attend the Saints.
