Utes’ Brocoff Named National Player of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – Utah freshman pitcher Brett Brocoff has been selected as a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

In his career debut on Sunday, Feb. 18 against Oral Roberts, Brocoff tied the Utah school record with 12 strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings pitched in the start. He had the most strikeouts of any player in the Pac-12 this weekend. Brocoff’s 12 strikeouts is tied for the school record with Jason Price (2004), Stephen Fife (2008, twice), Brian Budrow (2008) and Mitch Watrous (2013).

Brocoff surrendered five hits, three runs and one walk in Utah’s loss to ORU.

Brocoff was a 28th-round selection in the 2017 MLB Draft (830th overall pick) by the Atlanta Braves. He was the 2017 4A Southern Nevada Player of the Year at Desert Oasis High School in Las Vegas, Nev.
