SALT LAKE CITY-The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released exterior renderings of planned designs of their temples at Coban, Guatemala and Okinawa, Japan under the direction of Church President Russell M. Nelson.
COBAN, GUATEMALA-This temple will be located in Coban, which is roughly four hours northeast of Guatemala City. It will be built on a 5.4-acre site adjacent to 4a. Avenida 4-48 Zona 8, Barrio Bella Vista of Coban, Guatemala.
Plans are calling for a single-story temple consisting of approximately 8,800 square feet. A meetinghouse and temple patron housing will also be built on the site.
This temple was announced in October 2019 and will be that country’s third temple. Guatemala also has temples in Guatemala City (1984) and Quetzaltenango (2011).
OKINAWA, JAPAN-This temple will be located on a half-acre site at 7-11, Matsumoto, Okinawa Shi of Okinawa-ken, Japan.
These plans call for a two-story temple of approximately 10,000 square feet. A temple-patron waiting area will also be added on to an adjacent existing meetinghouse.
The Okinawa, Japan Temple was announced in April 2019 and will be the fourth temple on Japanese soil upon its dedication.
Other Japanese temples are located in Tokyo (1980), Fukuoka (2000) and Sapporo (2016).
Japan is the home to 130,400 Latter-day Saints, 28 stakes and 261 congregations (157 wards). Okinawa is located in the East China Sea and while separate from the Japanese landmass, is still part of the nation.
