Sens. Romney & Lee Want Planned Parenthood Investigated

SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, Utah Republican Sens. Mitt Romney and Mike Lee want the Department of Justice to investigate whether dozens of Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country “fraudulently” received loans from the Paycheck Protection Program.

These Utah senators are among 24 Republicans throughout the country who sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr Thursday saying the CARES Act prohibits organizations such as Planned Parenthood from receiving PPP funds.

This program was designed to assist small businesses in their attempts to retain employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a tweet, Romney said the DOJ should investigate whether Planned Parenthood “fraudulently” applied for and received nearly $80 million in loans it was eligible for.

At least 37 Planned Parenthood affiliates received loans, per these senators.

Planned Parenthood has confirmed these affiliates qualify for PPP loans.

Nevertheless, the senators attest Brownsville, N.Y.-based Planned Parenthood knew that it was ineligible for the small business loans before its affiliates “fraudulently” self-certified that they were eligible.
