Trump Addresses Media Friday

WASHINGTON-Friday, United States president Donald Trump and the White House coronavirus task force addressed the media.

Trump started things off joyously, saying “in the last 7 days, there has been very significant progress.” He cited the fact that there is a decline nationwide in positive tests.

He confirmed the country is reopening at a steady pace and that the Paycheck Protection Program was signed into law.

Trump said that direct payments to 81 million Americans have occurred with an average check of $3,000 being made to families.

Trump concluded his statements, saying “our economy in the not-too-distant future will be just as strong or even stronger than it ever has been before.”

Food and Drug Administration commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said a team of more than 18,000 doctors and scientists is working around the clock to test drugs/vaccines for coronavirus.

When asked about trying to develop a diagnostic for a completely new infectious disease, Hahn said “we’ve been laser-focused in working with both industry and academia to make this happen.”

Hahn said the first-at home swab test was authorized by the FDA and a total of 63 tests have since been approved.

Hahn stated “We are leaving no stones un-turned when it comes to finding treatment for COVID-19. 72 trials of therapeutics are currently underway but none have been approved,” he confirmed.

Hahn concluded saying the FDA has only authorized four antibody tests. He stated a lot of other tests are out there that are not authentic.

Vice President Mike Pence concluded the proceedings, saying the nation has one team and one mission and its purpose is to save lives. Pence said he has met with governors across the nation over the phone to hear about the ongoing progress that is being made concerning the expansion of tests all across the country.

Pence concluded his remarks, saying “the day will soon come when we can heal our land.”
