Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Encourage Participation In Government Censuses

SALT LAKE CITY-In citing its 12th Article of Faith, which tells members to honor the governments in lands where they reside, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is encouraging adherents to the faith to participate in the Census.

Leaders of the Salt Lake City-based faith have encouraged Saints in the United States and Mexico, each of which have conducted censuses or are doing so now, to participate.

Per the United States Constitution, this tabulation must occur every 10 years. The same is also true of Mexico.

These censuses have important implications for the just distribution of political power and federal government funding to states in both the United States and Mexico.

Accurate census data also assists in helping the Church more effectively plan its activities worldwide.

The Mexican Census was completed in March.
