WASHINGTON-United States President Donald Trump boldly made several proclamations Tuesday as he spoke during the White House coronavirus task force press conference.
Trump started things out by saying he will halt funding for the World Health Organization.
During his remarks, Trump accused WHO of “severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus.”
Trump also cited information from Rutgers University confirming their saliva test to treat COVID-19.
This treatment is the first one to be granted emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration.
This can be self-administered, Trump said, and 10,000 tests can then be administered daily, he confirmed.
Trump jokingly called this methodology “innovation under pressure.”
Trump cited the need to “restore prosperity for the American worker.” He said “I think [the economy] will roar once it gets open” in further comments on the subject.
Trump then declared that “the plans are being finalized” to open the country.
He said he will “authorize each governor to implement a reopening plan of their state at a time and in a manner as most appropriate.”
Trump then echoed the emotions of many Americans, saying that he wants sports back.
Trump bemoaned the fact that baseball “should be going on right now.” He then spoke of the formation of a committee to get the country up and running again.
In his present vein of thought, Trump commissioned NBA commissioner Adam Silver, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, UFC president Dana White, WWE owner Vince McMahon and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to be advisors in getting the country up and running again.
Other reports confirm Trump is working with the top executives from the PGA, LPGA, NASCAR and Major League Soccer in hopes of bolstering his attempts.
As Trump began to take comments, he stated he would love to have a good relationship with China but he first needs to see if China will live up to this trade deal.
When asked about various states wanting to open per his requests, he said “we are there to watch and help.”
Trump stated that “we have always wanted the states to do the testing” when asked a question on that subject.
In his closing remarks, Trump stated he will not be pressuring any governors to do something they do not want to do in regard to opening their states.
