Eight Deer Poached In Wayne County Over Past Few Months, Per DWR

TEASDALE, Utah-Last month, two deer were illegally killed and discarded near Capitol Reef National Park.

This adds to a growing number of poaching cases in the Wayne County area, causing state conservation officials to be concerned.

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Sergeant Seth Decker, patrolled near Teasdale March 28 and spotted a pair of doe carcasses near the junction of Teasdale Road and Birch Creek Road.

Upon investigating the scene, he discovered both had been shot and killed and left to waste

It is believed the deer were killed between March 23-28 but this is all the information the division has concerning this case, Decker said.

Months prior to this, six deer were killed and left to waste near Lyman, which is located 10 miles northwest of Teasdale.

Decker said he has found no correlation between these two cases but he discerned that both cases saw the deer left for dead in agricultural fields.

Decker continued, saying a bull elk was killed around Memorial Day 2019 and pronghorn were also killed in the general area last year.

Anyone with information about the recent poaching changes in Wayne County or anywhere else in the Beehive State is invited to call the divisions UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-337 or report it at wildlife.utah.gov/in.

Division officials said they will honor all requests for confidentiality.

Officials added a monetary reward may be available for any information leading to a conviction of poaching crimes.
