SPANISH FORK, Utah-Tuesday, two deputies with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said.
Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith confirmed he was notified of the second positive test over the weekend.
The first case was confirmed March 25.
Both of these deputies were self-quarantined at their homes and anyone who interacted with them was notified by health officials.
Utah County Health Department officials said they did not believe the deputies were at work when these symptoms commenced.
Officials say the likelihood of the virus spreading from this situation is “low.”
In statements made earlier Tuesday, officials with the Davis County Sheriff’s Office said a staff member at the county jail tested positive for the coronavirus.
Officials with Davis County confirmed the employee does not have direct contact with inmates and was likely exposed to the virus in the community.
Davis County Health Department officials believe those who could have been exposed and a few employees who were at “moderate risk” were instructed to stay out of the workplace until 14 days from the exposure had passed.
A few Davis County employees were evaluated at a “low risk” and DCSO officials said they will be monitored at least three times a day for symptoms.
