SALT LAKE CITY-Saturday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed a missionary died in a car accident while serving in the Dominican Republic Santiago Mission.
Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff confirmed 20-year-old Israel Emmanuel Ramirez Diaz of Ecatepec, Mexico passed away in the incident.
Diaz had been serving on his mission since April 2018. Two other missionaries were with Ramirez Diaz at the time: 20-year-old Elder Jonata Maia Oliveira of Fortaleza, Brazil and 20-year-old Elder Brigham Darian Tovar Noriz of Atotonilco de Tua, Hidalgo, Mexico.
Oliveira and Noriz were injured in the incident and are receiving medical attention, per the statement.
The Church is working with local authorities as they investigate the crash.
