SALT LAKE CITY-Friday evening, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed one of its missionaries has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Church spokesman Daniel Woodruff confirmed a young elder from Guatemala serving in Mexico City tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.

Officials are in the process of notifying all those with whom the missionaries had recent contact. This includes a previous companion who returned to California two days ago and is self-isolating at its home, per the Church’s statement.
