Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Announces Further Adjustments To Missionary Service

SALT LAKE CITY-In remarks shared Thursday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced further adjustments to missionary service.

The First Presidency and Quorum of Twelve Apostles cited their original statement on the matter, dated March 20.

In this post, the indication was the original term of service for missionaries brought back early to the United States would likely be reduced to accommodate the large number of missionaries returning from around the world.

However, the Thursday statements consist of the following adjustments:

-where possible, in some areas of the world, missionaries will remain and complete their regular term of service.

-elders and sisters originally called to other international assignments and who are returning to the United States and Canada and have completed at least 18 months and 15 months, respectively, will be released.

-elders who are currently serving in a mission in the United States and Canada who are scheduled to complete their service on or before September 1, 2020, will be released when they have served 21 months.

As the Church evaluates conditions, further adjustments will be made.
