SALT LAKE CITY-Around 12:45 pm Sunday, the Utah Department of Health confirmed the first death as a result of coronavirus in Utah.
The patient was identified as a male over the age of 60 from Davis County who was being treated at Lakeview Hospital of Bountiful.
He had underlying medical conditions and had been hospitalized two days prior to his death, per health officials.
Utah Department of Health state epidemiologist Angela Dunn said all Utahns need to do their part in preventing the spread of this malady.
Health officials reported this individual tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday. The Davis County Health Department was working to identify and contact anyone who may have been in close contact with the patient.
At a pressing following the announcement, Dunn confirmed that Utah is seeing “an increase in cases” and the Beehive State is in the “acceleration phase.”
