Utah Valley Men’s Basketball’s Brandon Averette Named To WAC All-Newcomer Squad

DENVER-Tuesday, Utah Valley men’s basketball redshirt junior guard Brandon Averette was named to the Western Athletic Conference’s All-Newcomer Team per an announcement from the league office.

Averette, who formerly played at Oklahoma State of the Big 12 Conference, is only the fourth Wolverine in program history to achieve this distinction.

Others include forward Zach Nelson (2014), forward Konner Frey (2016) and guard Jake Toolson (2018).

Averette, a native of Richardson, Texas, posted 12.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game during the regular season for the Wolverines.

Averette ranked fifth in the WAC in free throw percentage (86.4 percent), seventh in the WAC in assists (46) and 11th in scoring in conference annals.

Thursday, the Wolverines, the No. 6 seed in the WAC Tournament, face No. 3 seed Seattle U. at the Orleans Arena of Las Vegas.
