WEST WENDOVER, Nev. (AP)-The first marijuana dispensary opened Monday in a northeastern Nevada border city known for its casinos. This has become the closest spot for northern Utah residents who want to buy pot to make their purchases.
Those who make the 90-minute drive to West Wendover will have to be careful because Nevada laws prohibit using marijuana in public places or hotel rooms.
Furthermore, U.S. laws prohibit it being taken across state lines.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street says they won’t have extra patrols and will respect people with a doctor’s note allowing them to use medical marijuana in Utah. Street says he and his fellow officers are worried about more impaired drivers on Beehive State highways, however.
