McDonald leads Hawaii to 38-34 win over BYU in Hawaii Bowl

HONOLULU (AP)-Cole McDonald delivered early and late for Hawaii in a 38-34 victory over BYU in the Hawaii Bowl.

McDonald threw for 493  yards and four touchdowns on the evening to lead the Rainbow Warriors to the victory. After BYU took a 34-31 lead on a 20-yard field goal from Jake Oldroyd, Hawaii struck back as McDonald hit Nick Mardner (2 rec, 62 yards, TD) on a 22-yard scoring strike for the game-winning score. Other key targets for McDonald included JoJo Ward (7 rec, 159 yards), Jared Smart (7 rec, 142 yard, 2 TD’s) and Jason Matthew-Sharsh (7 rec, 90 yards, TD).

On the subsequent possession, Zach Wilson (24-40, 274 yards, 2 INT’s) was intercepted by Khoury Bethley to seal the win for the Rainbow Warriors. Wilson ran for two scores in the loss for the Cougars.

Hawaii ends the season with a record of 10-5 with BYU dropping to 7-6.
