SALT LAKE CITY-Wednesday, Utah men’s basketball head coach Larry Krystkowiak inked four signees to letters of intent as he hopes to bolster the Utes’ program.
Per reports from reputable scouting Web sites 247Sports and Scout, who ranked the Utes’ class No. 7 and No. 9 respectively, this is the best recruiting class in the program’s Pac-12 history.
They include four-star prospects in Swedish national, 6-5 185-pound guard Pelle Larsson, 6-6, 200-pound forward Caleb Lohner out of Wasatch Academy who grew up in Dallas and Costa Rican national 6-3 175-pound guard Ian Martinez.
The Utes also netted a three-star recruit in Sky View High School product Mason Falslev, a native of Benson, Utah in Cache County.
While starring with RIG Lulea last season, Larsson, a native of Stockholm, posted 17.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as well as 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks.
Last season at Wasatch Academy, Lohner averaged 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for the Tigers.
Last season at JSerra Catholic High School of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Martinez helped lead the Lions to a 22-8 record and a second-round appearance in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. Martinez’s father, Henry Martinez, is an assistant for the Utes. He is a native of Herida, Costa Rica.
Faslev led the Bobcats to a Class 4-A state title last season, netting 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks per game. He is currently the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,421 career points. Upon his graduation from Sky View High School this spring, he will serve a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints mission before joining the Utes’ program.
The 2-0 Utes return to action Friday at the Huntsman Center as they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Big Ten for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
