Today Kicks off Bullying Prevention Month with a series of messages to audiences on 94.5 FM The Peak and 93.7 FM The Wolf. Bullying is a serious problem that can have a negative impact on relationships. Roughly one in three U.S. students say they’ve been bullied in school. Just as concerning, almost one in three kids admit to bullying others. October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Experts say that social media allows bullying to take place at all times of the day, whether you’re at home on the weekend or up late at night. Wasatch Schools knows this and they’re working to change it. JR Smith Elementary counselor Kristi Davis sent an email to parents last week with a lesson that is being presented to the students:
“This week the counseling lesson in your student’s class was a review of what to do if someone is being unkind. The technique is called Stop, Walk, Talk.
If a student is being unkind to you…
First: Tell them to STOP. Using a firm voice and hand signal. (If someone tells you to stop, you stop and go do something else.)
If the student does not stop, Next: WALK away.
And finally, if the student continues to follow you or the behavior does not stop: TALK to an adult about the problem.
If someone is hurt or in danger, we don’t use stop, walk, talk. We report right away to the teacher!”
