SALT LAKE CITY-In news released late Monday, the University of Utah and BYU athletic departments jointly announced an extension of the football rivalry series between the two programs, located 45 miles away from each other along the Wasatch Front.
Utah athletic director Mark Harlan and BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe confirmed this extension consists of four games.
This extension includes a pair of seasons, 2022 and 2023, wherein the Cougars and Utes will not meet on the gridiron. This break in the series will allow the Utes to schedule a home-and-home series against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference.
The four additional games in the series will occur in 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028.
Under a previous contract, the two bitter rivals will still meet in 2020, 2021 and 2024.
Specific dates, kickoff times and broadcast dates are to be announced at a future date.
