One Suspect Arrested after Shooting Spree at Heber City Liquor Store.

A press release from the Heber City Police reports that Wasatch County Dispatch received the alarm call just after 6:30 Sunday evening, September 8 at the Utah State Liquor Store, located on East Gateway Drive near the intersection of highways 189 and 40.

Heber City Police booked a juvenile male into Juvenile Detention for investigation of several criminal charges, according to a news release from the Heber City Police Department. Local sources say the male had recently been released from a Juvenile Detention facility and moved to Heber City.

The juvenile male approached the Heber City Liquor Store, and proceeded to create a Live feed on his personal Instagram account, according to that video, the suspect approached the door of the liquor store with the intent to rob the store at gunpoint, when he reached the door, it was locked. Apparently, the suspect wasn’t aware that Utah State Liquor Stores are closed on Sunday. The suspect then proceeded to shoot the glass door with a loaded weapon until he was able to break through the glass. He then proceeded to the second glass door, where he reloaded and shot the second glass door in order to enter the building. Upon entering the building, he took one bottle of alcohol and exited the building, fleeing the crime scene.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers observed broken glass at this business, and set up a perimeter on the building. Heber City Police Lt. Jeremy Nelson says that during this time, officers reported that shots were fired.

“Our officers didn’t fire their weapons,” Lt. Nelson explained. “When they were on scene there was some shots fired during that time and our officers didn’t return fire.”

The suspect is in state custody upon arrangement.
