Homeless man charged in Salt Lake woman’s shooting death

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A homeless man has been charged in last month’s shooting death of a woman on a bustling Salt Lake City street.

Charges were filed in court Friday against 27-year-old Timothy Vaughn for murder, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

It wasn’t immediately known if Vaughn had an attorney to represent him.

Salt Lake City police say 33-year-old Alicia Baxter was shot in the head on Aug. 15 in an area typically filled with restaurant patrons.

She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

A witness says Baxter and Vaughn were arguing before he pulled out a gun and shot her.

Investigators used surveillance video and a grocery card to identify Vaughn, who lists a shelter as his address.
