DES MOINES, Iowa-As he remains on assignment in Triple A, Addison Russell homered for the second time in as many games as the Iowa Cubs blanked Salt Lake 6-0 Monday evening at Principal Park.
Mark Zagunis added an RBI double in the win for the Cubs, as they improved to 65-55. Colin Rea took the the win on the mound for the Cubs as he is now 12-3 on the season. Rea amassed six strikeouts and surrendered only five hits in seven innings of work. The Bees fell to 51-69 with the loss.
Pioneer Legue
OGDEN, Utah-Sauryn Lao posted the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 11th Inning as the Ogden Raptors snapped a 2-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Missoula Osprey Monday at Lindquist Field in Pioneer League baseball action. Trailing 3-2 headed to the bottom of the 11th Inning, Jimmy Titus’ RBI single tied things up 3-3, setting the stage for Lao’s heroics. Titus also had an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th Inning and Cesar Mendoza had a ground-out RBI in the 7th Inning for Ogden, as they improved to 40-12 on the season.
Corey Merrill took the win on the mound for Ogden, as he is now 3-1 on the season. Axel Andueza had all 3 RBI in the loss for the Osprey, as they fell to 28-24.
OREM, Utah-Jeremiah Jackson homered twice and Morgan McCullough also homered as the Orem Owlz smacked the Idaho Falls Chukars 13-5 at UCCU Ballpark Monday in Pioneer Leauge baseball action. Jose Verrier also homered in the win for the Owlz, as they improved to 18-34. Yoel De Leon earned the win on the mound for Orem, as he improved to 1-2. Jose Marquez belted a grand slam in the loss for the Chukars, as they fell to 26-25.
