SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The number of travelers continues to grow at Utah’s largest airport.
The Deseret News reports new data from the U.S. Department of Transportation indicates Salt Lake City International Airport saw a slightly over 5% travel increase in 2018 over the previous year. Data estimates more than 24 million people moving through the airport annually.
Airport officials noted the strain such growth has put on an airport designed to handle 10 million passengers.
The airport is currently undergoing a $3.6 billion redevelopment project that will build a new central terminal, a parking garage and other developments to accommodate more travelers.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2025.
