LAHAINA, Hawaii-Thursday morning, the 2019 Maui Invitational schedule was released, which features BYU men’s basketball against UCLA November 25 at 11:30 pm MST.
This is the Cougars’ fourth all-time appearance at the Maui Invitational, having previously competed at the event in 1992, 2004 and 2014.
The loaded field of this perennially prestigious tournament also features college basketball blue-bloods Kansas and Michigan State.
The field also features unofficial host Division II Chaminade and Georgia, Dayton and Virginia Tech.
The Cougars have traditionally fared well against the Bruins, only trailing the storied program 11-10 all-time.
BYU’s last game against UCLA was December 18, 2010 when the Bruins ended BYU’s 10-0 start to the season with an 86-79 win at the Honda Center of Anaheim, Calif.
The Cougars are also 2-0 at the event against the Division II Silverswords and are 1-3 all-time against Kansas. BYU’s only victory against the storied Jayhawks came in 1960 at Provo.
The Cougars are a respectable 4-4 against Michigan State, 4-0 against Virginia Tech, 2-1 against Georgia and 2-0 against Dayton. However, should the Cougars and Flyers cross paths on the islands, it would be their first meeting since January 3, 1959, a 70-62 BYU victory.
