Utah Minor League Baseball Roundup: 7/6

Pacific Coast League

SALT LAKE CITY-Matthew Batten’s 2nd Inning grand slam got the El Paso Chihuahuas going as they outlasted the Salt Lake Bees 8-6 Saturday at Smith’s Ballpark in Pacific Coast League baseball action.

Batten also posted a pair of RBI singles, netting 6 RBI overall, as the Chihuahuas improved to 54-34 with the win.

Brennon Lund and Jose Rojas each homered in the loss for the Bees, as they fell to 39-49 with the loss.

The Bees host the Chihuahuas again Sunday, before entering the All-Star Break.

Incidentally, the PCL-International League All-Star game is at El Paso Wednesday.

Pioneer League

OGDEN, Utah-Nick Kahle and Luis Avalo each homered as the Rocky Mountain Vibes smacked Ogden 7-2 Saturday at Lindquist Field in Pioneer League baseball action. Ernesto Martinez and Michael Wilson each added RBI in the win for the Vibes, as they improved to 9-12. Justin Yurchak and Andy Pages each had RBI in defeat for the Raptors, who fell to 15-6.

OREM, Utah-Julio Carrera’s 1st Inning RBI double was all the offense the Grand Junction Rockies needed as they edged Orem 1-0 at UCCU Ballpark Saturday in Pioneer League baseball action. Mitchell Kilkenny earned the win on the mound for the Rockies, as they improved to 11-10 with the win.
