Chase Hansen Named As Utah Athletics’ Male Recipient of Pac-12 Medal

SALT LAKE CITY-Tuesday, former Utah football All-American Chase Hansen has been named the Utes’ male athlete 2018-19 Tom Hansen Conference medal recipient.

A Pac-12 conference medal is awarded to the top senior male and female student-athlete at every league institution.

The Utes’ women’s recipient is gymnast Kari Lee.

Hansen, who served as a team captain for the Utes last season, is the third Utah football player to receive this honor. Prior to this, Derrick Shelby earned the honors in 2012 and Hunter Dimick in 2017.

Hansen, who is currently trying to make the New Orleans Saints’ roster for the upcoming NFL season, was named as a second-team All-American by the FWAA, Sporting News, The Athletic and college football guru Phil Steele in 2008.

He was also a first team all-Pac-12 selection as he led the conference in tackles for loss (22). This also ranked him fifth nationally.

Hansen earned a bachelor’s degree in consumer and community studies with an emphasis in financial planning and a minor in sociology.

He contributed to his community by visiting area hospitals, assisting at homeless shelters and volunteering with a Boy Scouts of America refugee troop.
