Kohler receives Huntsman Memorial Award

Congratulations to SAR Commander Kam Kohler. He was presented the Rex L. Huntsman Memorial Award, which is given by the Utah Sheriff’s Association and the Utah Search and Rescue Association. The Huntsman award is given to one search and rescue member each year who has made a significant impact on the profession.

Kam Kohler was named the 2019 Utah Search and Rescue Member of the Year.

This weekend Search and Rescue (“SAR”) Teams from across the State trained together at Fish Lake in Sevier County. Their training ranged from water rescue, to loading patients and equipment in and out of military helicopters.

His family joined him for the recognition, and shared on social media “we always joke that he’s “out saving the world”, but he really has helped so many people over the last 22 years!”

Kam Kohler became a volunteer SAR member in 1997, just over 21 years ago. He’s been the SAR Commander since 2013 and has led the team during all types of operations.

Since Kam has been SAR Commander, the team has professionalized by obtaining and maintaining specialty certifications, including in dive operations, high angle rescue, sonar boat equipment, a high mountain sled who is avalanche certified, ice rescue team, equestrian, and OHV. This award was sponsored by the Utah Sheriff’s Association and the FBI National Academy.
